George Robert McDowell

George Robert McDowell, of Greencastle, IN, formerly of Mesquite, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 17th, 2012 at the Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center. He was born in Terre Haute, IN on Oct. 31, 1943. A graduate of Riley High School, Class of 1961. George was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1972 as a Field Radio Mechanic/Repairman and was a life member of the American Legion Post # 4695 of Hurst-Euless-Bedford Texas. He was previously a member of the VFW Honor Guard in Dallas and a Vietnam Veterans of America founding member. In addition to loving his family and friends George enjoyed hunting, photography and motion pictures.

George is survived by his daughter, Tasha L. McDowell, his daughter, Joyce A.(McDowell) Young of Greencastle, IN and son-in-law David B. Young; grandchildren, Samantha and Nathan Pearson, daughter, Cha S. (McDowell) Lizdas. His, sister, Ruth A. Fields of Terre Haute, IN, nephew Robert E Fields, Nieces Esther L. Fields , Michelle D (Fields) McMains and several great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by father, George Benjamin McDowell, mother, Ruth Adele Adams Lifford and stepfather, Stanley Everett Lifford. In addition to his parents and stepfather, George was welcomed home to heaven by his nephew, Cecil C. Chilton.

A Memorial services will be held in his honor on August 11th 2012 at the Roselawn Funeral Home located at 7500 N. Clinton St., Terre Haute, IN. Visiting hours are from 1pm-2pm and Military Honors service starting at 2pm.
