Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, departed this life to go home to Jesus on February 6, 2012 in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 83.
Gila was born on February 2, 1929 in Burnett, Indiana, the daughter of the late Roy Robert and Ella Marie Carlin Blair.
She graduated with the class of 1947 from Otter Creek High School. She then went on to marry her loving and devoted husband, Darwin Eugene Bucy on August 6, 1950 at the Burnett United Methodist Church. Their marriage was blessed with over sixty loving years.
As a hardworking and independent woman, Gila always kept busy. She worked in Terre Haute at McCroy’s Drug Store, Root’s Department Store, Quaker Maid, Montgomery Ward, and most recently was employed at Hess’s Department Store in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Gila was a woman of great devotion and Christian faith who always put others first. She faithfully attended church, sang in the church choir, and loved being a Sunday school teacher.
Gila enjoyed Bible study, singing, playing games and puzzles, reading, gardening, baking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, boating and traveling. Her pride and joy were her two grandchildren. She took great joy in her family and one could see the pride that swelled across her face with their mention.
As a young girl, Gila’s beautiful voice led her to form a quartet with her high school friends, Wanita Lemrick, Norma Gene and Marjorie Ann Smith. Together they sang Christian hymnals and popular western songs at churches and fairs.
Gila was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her wisdom and strength always helped guide her family.
Gila was an active member of several churches including Burnett United Methodist Church, Liberty Avenue United Methodist Church, Pimento United Methodist Church, Calvary United Methodist Church in Easton, Pennsylvania, St. James United Methodist Church in Sarasota Florida, and most recently Northminister Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Florida.
Gila was a strong supporter of several organizations including the Salvation Army, World War II Veterans Association, United Methodist Churches, and Feed the Children Foundation.
Gila leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Darwin Eugene Bucy; daughters, Phyllis Richmond and her husband Gary of Lexington, South Carolina, and Lois Markle and her husband Raymond of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; grandchildren, Jenea and Jensen Taylor of Lexington, South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Gila was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Willis and Elwood Blair; and her sister, Eva Blair Thompson.
Gila will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends. Her loving spirit will live on in the lives of those she touched for generations to come.
The entire Bucy family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all family and friends for their many kind expressions of sympathy during this difficult time. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until Gila’s Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. in Roselawn’s Chapel of Memories. Entombment of her cremated remains will then follow. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
