

Harriett Lou DeLisle Benjamin, aged 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She was born on March 26, 1927, in Terre Haute, IN to Charles and Jennie DeLisle. Harriett was a proud resident of Terre Haute and was a graduate of Garfield High School. She married Robert Benjamin on April 12, 1947. They were happily married for forty-nine years before Robert passed in 1996. Harriett was self-employed as a talented seamstress. Her monogramming, alterations and sewing skills were well known throughout the Wabash Valley.
Harriett was a devoted member of the Southside Church of Christ in Terre Haute. Sunday mornings were a time for worship, family, and a good Sunday lunch with family. She was a member of the Burnett Home-Ec Club as well as a member of the Women’s Department Club. Harriett loved spending time with her family including fifteen great grandchildren. Harriett loved trips to Florida where she visited family and friends while enjoying the sunshine.
Harriett had two wonderful children that grew up on Rosehill Ave. in Terre Haute. Sue Ellen Cleghorn resides in Rosedale with her husband, Bobby Cleghorn. Harriett’s son, Donnie Benjamin, preceded her in death. Harriett’s faith ensured that her passing has reunited her with her husband and son in heaven. She is survived by five grandchildren including Brian Benjamin (Jenny), Jennie Menser (Michael), Mandy Ugoletti, Micha Benjamin (Chris), and Derek Cleghorn (Abby). Harriett also had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Harriett loved to sing church hymns, with her favorite song being In the Garden. Many times her family sang faithfully the lyrics below knowing that someday Harriett would walk with Him in heaven.

And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.”
Family, friends, and others are invited Thursday, January 9, 2025, to Roselawn Funeral Home (7500 North Clinton Street, Terre Haute, IN 46805) from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm to celebrate and honor the life of Harriett Benjamin. A service will follow visitation at Roselawn Funeral Home.
