

Luke, as he was often known, was born September 9, 1926, in Clay County, to Thomas and Rhoda (Archer) Riggs. He graduated from Brazil High School. Luke married Lois Steuerwald on November 2, 1946. Luke worked as an electrician for Allis Chalmers and J.I. Case. He retired from JI Case in 1987. In his free time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
He was preceded in death by his son Jamie Riggs: granddaughter: Holly Smith, sisters: Nina Davis, Mildred Johnson, Ruby White and Nelda Acrea; brothers: George Riggs, Thomas Riggs, Edgar Glenn Riggs and LeRoy “Blue” Riggs.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Lois Riggs of Brazil; daughter Vickie Smith and companion Clayton Ames of Brazil; grandchildren: Kevin Smith (Ashley Sabin) of Brazil, J.R. Riggs of North Carolina; daughter-in-law April Riggs of North Carolina; great-grandsons: Jordan Berardi, Karson Smith and Clayton Smith all of Brazil; brother: Jack Riggs of Terre Haute; sisters-in-law: Erma Pugh of Riley, Betty Riggs of Brazil, and Helen Riggs of Brazil; brother-in-law: Earl Steuerwald of Rockville; close friends Rick Thompson, Dylan Thompson of Parke County and John Setty of Cloverdale as well as several nieces nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00am with Pastor Tom Roeschlein officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Friday, from 4-7:30. Masonic Rites will be held Friday, at 7:30pm by members of the Knightsville Masonic Lodge 409.
