James Lowell McKenzie, 85 of Peru, Indiana, passed away on May 18, 2021 at his niece's residence in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born on August 21, 1935, in Villa Grove, Illinois to Eard and Opel (Sleeth) McKenzie.
James was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. James retired from the railroad where he worked as an inspector. Later, he worked in the maintenance department for Peru Hospital. James loved to attend craft shows, the Covered Bridge Festival, and he also liked watching Nascar. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.
James was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia Walters and Mary McKenzie; and a brother, Eugene McKenzie. He is survived by nieces, Debra Smith and Billie Rose, and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021 in Roselawn Memorial Park. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
