James served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was also a part of the Air National Guard 181 Tactical and he owned and operated a heating and air conditioning company. He was a member of the American Legion Post 104 and Maryland Community Church. He was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deloris Vaughn; son, James Vaughn Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Cassie Kelley.
He is survived by his children, Joe Vaughn, Debbie Vaughn, James Vaughn, Mark Vaughn, Teresa Head, John Vaughn; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Online condolences can be made at: www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
