Jeff Caton

Jeffery Allen Caton, 60, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on October 9, 1956, in Terre Haute to Allen Caton and Anita (Atterson) Alkire. Jeff is survived by his son, John Caton of Terre Haute; father Allen Caton (late wife Sandra Caton) of Terre Haute; mother Anita Alkire and husband Virgil of Terre Haute; siblings, Steve Alkire and wife Angi of Terre Haute, Kimberly Hyde and husband Michael of Terre Haute, Gregory Caton and wife Dian of Ohio, Pamela Jacks and husband Kurt of Clinton, and Gloria Tubbs and husband Ben of Terre Haute; grandson, Braden Michael Girton of Terre Haute; close friend and mother of his son, Rhonda Brooks and husband Roger of Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy (Shattuck) Caton; daughter, Patricia Ann Caton; step-mother, Sandra Caton; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Jeff worked as a mechanic for many years. It was a great career for him because he enjoyed working on cars, trucks, and diesels. He could fix anything. Jeff, along with his dad and son, had a passion for racing. Jeff was well known at the Terre Haute Action Track. He also enjoyed motorcycles, especially his 1100 Yamaha XL Special. Despite his need for speed with racing and motorcycles, Jeff liked to take life easy. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time with his family, doting on his grandson, and relishing a good meal. He had a kind heart and a big smile. He will be truly missed. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on Monday, June 5, 2017. A Celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at a later date.
