Obituary of Jessie Lee Lowery
Jessie Lee Lowery was born February 3, 1945 in Morganfield, Kentucky to the late Gertha O.B. Ligon and Carrie A. Allen (Boone). Jessie Graduated from Dunbar High School in Morganfield, Kentucky as Class Valedictorian in 1962 and gained secondary instruction at Kentucky State. On July 4, 1965, Jessie L. (Ligon) Lowery married Joseph (Joe) Lowery Sr. and later had two sons, Joseph (Joey) Lowery Jr. and Michael Lowery. Jessie and Joe accomplished 55 years of marriage before her departure from this Earth. Jessie was employed as a legal secretary for two years at Grinds and Breckinridge Law Firm in Kokomo, IN. She was employed as an assembly line worker at Accurate Parts in Kokomo, IN for over seven years. She later relocated to Terre Haute, IN and worked at Darrell Felling’s Law Firm as a legal secretary for approximately two years. She then transitioned to employment as an independent contractor and worked as a domestic house cleaner for many years and serviced several families in Terre Haute, IN. Jessie enjoyed sewing, puzzles and gardening in her free time. Jessie accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Morganfield, Kentucky. After relocating to Terre Haute, IN, she united with St. John M.B. Church, where she served as a faithful member of the Mother’s Board and Senior Choir President for several years. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Nancy E. Strong. Jessie leaves fond memories to be cherished by her husband Joseph Lowery Sr.; two sons, Joseph Lowery Jr. (Kelly) of Terre Haute, IN, Michael L. Lowery Sr. (Barbara) of Indianapolis, IN; her five Grandchildren, Jessica Turner (Andre), Delbert Lowery, Leah Lowery, Michael D. Lowery, Michael L. Lowery, Jr; her Great Grandchildren, Laresha Johnson, Lavontee’ Lowery, and Kahlil Lowery. She also leaves to cherish her memory four nephews, three nieces as well as two Honorary Daughters; Muriel Allen of Terre Haute, IN, and Andrea Taylor of Houston, TX; a host of great-nieces/nephews, cousins, friends including a special friend, Ann Bradford. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:30 on Saturday, October 31 at Saint John's Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dexter Jordan officiating. A viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Due to Covid-19, seating is limited to 50 people. All visitors are required to wear masks.
