

John proudly served first in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Army. He retired after working 30 years at Bemis. John had also worked at ISU. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking. He was an assistant Scout Master. John was a strong supporter of United States troops that were stationed overseas and enjoyed collecting items and sending care packages. He was an avid collector of military patches.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connie Conway; children, Shane Conway and wife Heather and Michael Conway and wife Nicole; sister, Gloria Jean Mitchell; brother Bill Conway; grandchildren, Draven Conway, Brandon Conway, Andie Schroyer, and Bryson Schroyer; and mother-in-law, Gelaine Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Bridgeton Cemetery.
