John was born on May 17, 1945, to John W. and Norma J Feuquay. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Connie D. Harvey. The two later moved to Terre Haute and were married on September 17, 1966, at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church.
John began working at Wabash Fiber Box before joining the Terre Haute Fire Department in 1974. He rose quickly through the ranks, becoming Battalion Chief and later serving as Interim Fire Chief. He faithfully served his city and his brother firefighters for more than thirty-three years, retiring in 2007. On his days off, he also worked security at Union Hospital for over twenty years. Throughout his life, John held several other jobs—including Woolco, Kor-X-All and Barbee’s Pest Control—to support and provide for his family.
In 2022, the Terre Haute Fire Department Awards Committee honored him by establishing the John W. Feuquay Lifetime Achievement Award, a testament to his dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to his fellow firefighters. John was a longtime member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church before joining Terre Haute Bible Baptist Church in 2025. He loved his Lord, his family and his firefighters deeply.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Norma J. Feuquay; his granddaughter, Catherine D. Feuquay; and his cousin, Don Smith of Montana.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie; his sons and daughter-in law, Russell and Elizabeth Feuquay and Matthew and Amanda Feuquay; grandchildren: Tyler, Samuel and John Feuquay; and step grandchildren: Damien, Landon, Aiden and Danica Giles.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice and the Seelyville Fire Department for their support over the past year.
