He is survived by his two sons, James Harold Julian (Amanda) and John Quincy Julian Jr. (Jessica); and his three daughters, Mary Tallman (Bob), Jeannie Gravil Roberts (Hobie), and Sherry Wagle (Kenny). He also leaves behind many grandchildren and many, many great and great-great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Pauline Jenkins, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Norma Jean Warnock Julian, whom he married on June 7, 1952; his brother, Joey Julian; his grandson, Noah Julian; and his great-grandchildren, Lucas Blue and Colton Murray.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army as an engineer, with service in Korea and Germany. Following his military service, he remained deeply committed to his community. He served as a Special Deputy under Sheriff Andrew Atelski, was a lifetime member of the VFW in West Terre Haute, served as the 6th District Commander of the American Legion, and was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
A hardworking and resourceful man, John owned Freeway Carwash and was known by many as a skilled mechanic and handyman—often referred to as a “second MacGyver.” He had a gift for fixing and tinkering with just about anything, often relying on his trusty bailing wire and duct tape. He retired from Mace Service and took particular pride in his work with clocks.
John enjoyed a full and active life. He loved camping, fishing, go-kart racing, and demo derbies. He was known on the CB radio as “Grasshopper” and was a dedicated fan of 346 Baseball. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
John was known for his sharp, sarcastic sense of humor and his straightforward nature—if he liked you, you knew it, and if he didn’t, you knew that too. His authenticity and strong character left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home on Tuesday April 7,2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A graveside service with military honors will follow from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Park.
