John graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1977 and graduated from Indiana State University in 1981. He played baseball at both Terre Haute North and Indiana State. He was known as one of the best left-hand pitchers. John was drafted by the New York Yankees, but due to an unfortunate injury, he could not play.
He retired from Meridan/SafeCo Insurance. John was a member of the Humboldt Lodge #42. He loved to play golf and had two hole-in-ones.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice and John C. Newman Sr. and a brother, David Wayne Newman.
He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services for John will be on August 1, 2026, at 11:00am at Roselawn Memorial Park.
