2025 in Peachtree City, Georgia, at the age of 100. Kathy was born in Terre Haute,
Indiana on March 4, 1924 to John and Helen Baker.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 63 years, Charles
William Kallis; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Kallis; her parents, her sister, Virginia
Purcell; her brother, Barney Baker, and several very dear friends.
Kathy is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Douglas (Kelly) Kallis of
Peachtree City, Georgia; Charla (Darrell) Keller of Burnett, Indiana; Diane (Brant)
Troutman of Round Rock, Texas; and her grandchildren, Tori (Noah) Offutt of
Fort Worth, Texas and Connor Troutman of Dallas, Texas. Kathy is also survived
by her two sons and four grandchildren from a previous marriage, Richard Johnson
and Dennis Johnson; Alan Johnson, Gary Johnson, Stacey Jackson, and Stephanie
Hale.
Kathy graduated from Fontanet High School in 1942. She lived and worked in
Chicago as an administrative assistant for several years. She met Charlie and they
married in 1961. When they started a family, Kathy began her most favorite role as
a caregiver and homemaker. She was the CEO of the household and the best
mommy there ever was. She took great pride in serving her family, always putting
their needs before her own. Kathy was loving, nurturing, and worked hard to
ensure their house truly felt like a home.
Kathy and Charlie remained in Terre Haute, raising their three children until they
moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas in 1977. They loved living in Siloam Springs.
It was a wonderful place to raise a family. They made many friends and lasting
memories during the 40+ years they lived there. They often visited the public
library and the health complex at John Brown University.
Kathy was involved with Welcome Wagon where she made lasting friendships and
served many in the community. In later years, she was a fixture at the Senior Center
where she enjoyed sharing meals, riding the exercise bicycle, and having more
opportunities to serve others.
Kathy cherished her role as a wife and mother but there was nothing she loved
more than being a grandma. She always looked forward to her visits with Tori and
Connor. She was a professional back scratcher and Uno player, and never grew
tired of being directed in "pretend like" playtime. Grandma and Grandpa attended
numerous sporting events, dance recitals, and Grandparents' Day activities
through the years, always beaming with pride. Kathy shared a special bond with
her grandchildren that continued to this day. She was the absolute best grandma.
Kathy kept detailed records of trips and day to day happenings. She wrote in notebooks, on
calendars, and anything else she could find. She kept every card
and letter she ever received. She also kept schoolwork and special artwork from her children and
grandchildren. Kathy had countless pictures of her family and friends which brought her so much
joy. She wrote the dates and detailed information on the back of the photographs to ensure the
people and events would never be forgotten.
She absolutely adored animals and they adored her. She cared deeply for our dogs, Dash and Snoopy,
as well as the pets of neighbors and other family members. She loved going to parks to feed the
ducks. No matter where they were living or visiting, Kathy managed to find ducks that needed to be
fed.
Kathy loved coffee and anything chocolate. Her favorite past times included talking on the phone,
exercising with friends, and watching TV (especially tennis and recorded soap operas). She liked to
read and work crossword puzzles. Relaxing in front of a fire was definitely her happy place.
Kathy looked forward to her weekly trip to the beauty salon to have her hair done, which was the
one thing she would do for herself. She always looked so lovely.
Kathy was Charlie’s companion, personal assistant, and co-pilot. They went on cruises and took
countless road trips together to Texas, Georgia, and "back home" to Indiana to visit family. They
took scenic trips to Colorado, Arizona, Canada, and several states in the northeast. For many
years, they traveled to Florida where they stayed during the winter months with other 'Snowbird'
friends. Kathy and Charlie looked forward to this trip each year, where they made wonderful
memories with very special friends.
Kathy and Charlie were members of First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, where they attended
weekly services and an adult Bible class.
Kathy and Charlie lived in Siloam Springs until they moved to Peachtree City, Georgia in 2018 to be
closer to their son and daughter-in-law. Kathy was a resident of the Somerby Senior Living
community at the time of her passing.
Kathy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her sweet spirit, and her heart of gold. She
loved and served others so well. Kathy and Charlie loved and cared for one another until he passed
early last year. Although we miss her terribly, we are so thankful to know she has been reunited
with Charlie, and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
A visitation will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute, Indiana on Friday, February 14
at 11:00, followed by a service at noon in the chapel. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial
Park. We thought it fitting that our mother/ grandmother, who loved others so well, be laid to rest
on Valentine’s Day.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kathy’s dedicated caregivers Kay, Tracy, Ashley,
Wanda, and Gail for the kindness, love, and care they showed Ms. Kathy each day. We are indebted to
Brightmoor Hospice for the compassion, devotion, and respect they bestowed upon Kathy and our
family these past several years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles W. and Kathleen L. Kallis Memorial
