He was born March 30, 1957 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Kenneth “Kenny” and Kathryn “Jean” Roman. He was the middle brother to Allison Holdaway, Mark Roman (Cyndi), and Scott Roman (Debbie). From the time that they were old enough to pick up wrenches, Drew and his brothers helped their father at the family-owned Roman Brothers Marathon service station. Always a northender, Drew attended Terre Town Elementary School, Otter Creek Junior High School, and graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1975. After high school, Drew attended Indiana State University where he pledged Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He later joined the Terre Haute Police Department where he worked as a detective, leaving the force as a sergeant in the uniform division. He was a member of the local Fraternal Order of Police softball team that won the 1985 state championship. After leaving the police force, Drew worked at Bemis until he retired.
Drew was a loving father and had one of the kindest hearts of anyone you will ever meet. His greatest sources of pride were his son, Andy Roman (Kim), and his daughter, Katey Earl (Shaun). Some of his fondest memories were being at the Terre Town baseball field coaching his son, or pestering his daughter with a fantastic “dad joke”. He was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan, a March Madness enthusiast, and would watch every sport in the Olympics.
After a couple of years of retirement, Drew began a new career, that was by far his favorite, when he became Grandpappy to his first granddaughter, Lexi Roman. A few years later, he was blessed with a grandson, Benny Earl, and a second granddaughter, Ellie Earl. Over the last few years, Drew had the opportunity to dedicate all of his time to being a dad and grandpappy. When you walked into his house, all you could see were pictures of his children and grandchildren, hand drawn pictures plastered all over his refrigerator, their rock displays in his entertainment center, or the “Grandpa” keychain that he so proudly displayed. He loved listening to tales of his grandchildren’s adventures and would belly laugh at their shenanigans.
Drew was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son, daughter, grandchildren, sister, brothers, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
