Obituary of Leo Mundell
Leo Neal Mundell, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Davis Gardens. He was born on November 24, 1924, in Farmersburg to Emil and May (Hamrick) Mundell. Leo is survived by his brother, Charles Mundell and wife Norma of Centralia, IL; sister, Melba Berry of Terre Haute; nieces Nancy Dowell and Charlene Berry; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale Mundell, Earl Mundell, and Joseph Mundell; brother-in-law, James Berry; and nephew, James Berry II. Leo served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the Phillipines, France, and the Far East. He was a graduate of State High School. He also graduated from Indiana State University with a teaching degree. He taught high school history, health, and driver’s education. He coached basketball at several Indiana schools, including Van Buren, Clay City, and Cory, in Clay County. Leo was an insurance salesman for Mutual of Omaha for over 20 years in Terre Haute. Leo loved to garden and was especially talented at cultivating fruit trees. He loved animals and rescued many dogs and cats over the years. A gifted writer, Leo was the author of several self-published poetry and short story books. He was an avid sports fan, especially of high school and college basketball. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3 at Thomas Funeral Home. Leo will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
