Obituary of Leona Thompson
Leona "Lee" Anderson Thompson passed away at 2:38 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital of complications with COPD. She was a resident of Southwood Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Paul Anderson; stepfather, George Franklin Stultz; her husband of 38 years, Richard A. Thompson; and most recently her fiancé, Larry "Dean" Archer. She is survived by one son, Robert "Bobby" Grayless; her mother, Anna Marie Anderson Stultz; sisters, Annette Anderson Turner and Paula Kay Stultz Dowell; brothers, John J. Anderson and Frank Stultz Jr.; several grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated from Garfield High School class of "67". Leona and her husband owned and operated a collectables store and a tire business in Indianapolis. She also worked in food services in both Mooresville and Terre Haute until her health forced her to retire. Her life was not an easy one but like all of us she persevered. She also was a caregiver to her mother-in-law who also had COPD and had to breathe with the help of a tracheotomy. In later life the same happened to Leona. Dec. 16, 2017, she was rushed to the hospital for an emergency tracheotomy. The last three years of her life have been torture not only for her but for those who loved her as well. We do not know who or how many will read this obituary but whomever you are, if you are a smoker we pray to God that you quit and do it now before you have to go through everything our sister went through. She was very strong willed and it was usually "her way or the highway". She would beat us at canasta and gloat over it for days. She never really had many possessions but what she had she would gladly share. It was never boring and she kept everyone guessing what would happen next. Sissy, you are going to be missed but never forgotten. You are in God's arms now. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mattox-Wood Funeral Home.
