Lillian Fern Webb, age 86, of North Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, surrounded by the family she so fiercely loved. Affectionately known as “Mama Lil,” she leaves behind a legacy of generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people in her life.
Born in Clinton, Indiana, on June 24, 1940, Lillian worked for many years at Bemis & Co. before retiring and enjoying more time with the people who meant the most to her: her family. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, proudly cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments.
Lillian had a special gift for making people feel welcome. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and made friends wherever she went. She found genuine joy in giving to others, often giving far more than was needed simply because it made someone happy. She made sure no one felt left out, even giving birthday gifts to the siblings of the person celebrating. Her holiday tree, which she decorated for nearly every occasion throughout the year, made every season a celebration and became a cherished family tradition. Lillian loved to laugh, go to bingo, play family poker games, and if there wasn’t a game to play, she was perfectly happy to make one up.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Gayla (Charlie) Wilde and Cindy (Rick) Laycock; her grandchildren, Kristy (Jimmie) Merk, Tiffany (Marty) Marrs, Dana Swinford, and Levi (Tera) Swinford; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Keith, Kaleb, Kylie, Kayden, & Kase Marrs; Lillian & Kassidy Merk; Emma & Chloe Swinford, and Madi Martin. She is also survived by her sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Feliciano and Ruth Ann Swinford, along with extended family and many friends whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Allen “Jim” Swinford; her husbands, Warren Swinford and August Webb; her parents, Jacob & Ruth Reiber; and her sisters, Anna “Moselle” Reiber and Louise “Teak” Ballock.
Lillian missed her son Jim deeply, and her family finds comfort in knowing they are together again.
Private burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7th from 1:00-4:00pm at Wildwood Venues located at 5129 East Old Maple Avenue, Terre Haute, IN.
Lillian will be remembered for her generous heart, her festive spirit, her laughter, and the countless ways she made others feel loved and included. Her family will carry her legacy forward through the traditions she created, the memories they share, and the simple acts of kindness she modeled throughout her life.
She will be loved and missed always.
