

Dr. Marvin Gilbert Shew, 75, of Seelyville, passed away Saturday, Feb.14, 2015, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Aug. 17, 1939, in Winamac, to Gilbert Lysander Shew and Orpha Lucile Hansel. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1957, and Purdue University in 1964. He was a doctor of veterinary medicine for 50 years at The Shew Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Shew was a member of Maryland Community Church, Masonic Blue Lodge, Strawberry Hill Cannoneers, Farmhouse Fraternity, American Kennel Club and Friends of Seelyville.
His achievements were: 2011 Readers Choice Winner of The Best Veterinarian-Tribune Star, Winner of Make A Difference Award WTHI-TV10, 2011, and 50 Years of Veterinary Practice at Shew Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Shew felt that being a veterinarian was not just a job, it was who he was. He cared for all animals, big and small. He also cared for their humans. He would mourn right alongside the owner with any loss. To say he was a family man would be the understatement of all times. His love and caring of his family knew no bounds.
Dr. Marvin Shew was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Laurdrella Price Shew, whom he married Dec. 15, 1972; sister, Delilah Martha Shew; and his parents.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Marie Shew Smith and husband Vancil, Laura Jo Shew Sherwood, and Marla Jean Shew Wickens and husband Erik. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Ian Smith, Caitlin Smith, Riley Wickens, and Isaac Wickens; and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Vancil Jerimiah.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb,19, 2015, at Roselawn Funeral Home, with a visitation Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Vince McFarland. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Online condolences can be made at:
