Michael Ray Gibbons

Michael Ray Gibbons, Sr., 65, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 2, 1952, in Hammond, IN to Morris and Lola Gibbons.
Michael is survived by his children: Michael Gibbons, Jr. and wife Rachel, Lisa Gibbons, Sherry Sears and husband David, and Terry Gibbons and wife Hayley, all of Terre Haute; a brother, Jeff Gibbons and wife Tammy of California; grandchildren, Tamra Gibbons, Ciara Gibbons, Jessie Wilkie, T.J. Wilkie., D.J. Sears, Jacob Sears, Breanna Sears, Hope Gibbons, Colleen Gibbons, Dilan Meier, Thomas Gibbons, and Danielle Gibbons; great-grandchildren, Miley Gray, Tayton Gray, and Kaden Wilkie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie Gibbons; brother, Butch Gibbons; sister, Becky Gibbons; mother-in-law, Lillie Kinney; and great-granddaughter, Hadley Gray.
Michael proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked for many years as an auto mechanic at various shops. In his younger days, he loved to drag race cars. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing. Recently, Michael joined the cell phone craze and always looked forward to the new features and technology that would develop. He also enjoyed shopping – he would head out for a drive and come back with a variety of new treasures. Michael loved his family and he had a great sense of humor that he passed down to his children. He will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with military honors taking place at 2 p.m, provided by American Legion Post 104. Per his wishes, Michael will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
