Michael Douglas Slater, 51, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 20, 1967, in Terre Haute to John Bill Slater and Marilyn Joyce Miller.
Mike is survived by his siblings: John Bill Slater, Jr. of Hymera, David Slater and wife Sandi of West Terre Haute, Christina Snavely of Terre Haute, Christopher Slater of Terre Haute, Teresa Auterson and husband Steve of Carbon, Stephen Slater of Terre Haute, and Melinda Slater of Terre Haute; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; close friend and caretaker, Bob Kelley; and bandmates, Rik Padgett, Chuck Hill, and Jimmy Hollingsworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Joseph Slater.
Mike played guitar with Rik Padgett for 10 years. He played in several bands, most recently in Cheap n’ Easy. He loved collecting model cars and looked forward to shopping for new ones. He also enjoyed going to car shows. Mike was an avid Cubs, Colts, and Larry Bird fan. In his younger days, he liked to go camping and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed going out to eat. Mike was a joy to be around and his family was very important to him. He will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Snider officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
