Mildred Irene Hauer, 91, passed away in Indianapolis January 5, 2017. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 22nd, 1925 to Henry and Catherine Heubel. Mildred graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1943. She became an avid opera fan as a teenager, listening to Metropolitan Opera presentations at home on the radio. As an adult, she attended numerous operas, madrigals and orchestral works at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She married John Hauer in 1944 and after her children were raised worked 21 years as a teller for Terre Haute First National Bank, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Church in Terre Haute for many years where she was active in the choir, Young Catholic League, Mothers Club and Altar Society. In retirement, she also enjoyed swimming and belonged to a group for seniors at the YMCA in Terre Haute until she moved to Indianapolis in 1998, where she became a member of a group through the Riviera Club.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband John after 44 years of marriage, and by her 3 sisters, Frances, Edith and Edna. She is survived by her 4 children, Ann Marie, Christine, Mark and Melissa, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Services will be private, for immediate family only. Memorial donations may be made in Mildred’s honor to St. Benedict’s Church in Terre Haute.
