

Rance Weston Barnaby, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Union Hospital. He was born on February 10, 1948, in Terre Haute to Max Barnaby, Jr. and Helen Virtue (Boruff) Barnaby.
Rance is survived by his sister, Tanya Sue Barnaby of Terre Haute; children, Jeff Barnaby and wife Melissa of Indianapolis, Erik Barnaby and wife Kristi of Terre Haute, Sean Barnaby and wife Michelle of Terre Haute, and Caitlin Barnaby of Terre Haute; and grandchildren, Dillon Barnaby, Olivia Barnaby, Taylor Barnaby, Xander Barnaby, Lane Sullivan, Alex Barnaby, Stella Barnaby, Gabriel Barnaby, Lily Barnaby, and Hailey Barnaby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Bill Barnaby and wife Vonda of Springfield, IL.
Rance worked for 25 years as a Firefighter for the City of Terre Haute. He then worked in Code Enforcement for the Terre Haute Police Department. He also worked security at Union Hospital and Rose-Hulman. He was a graduate of Honey Creek High School. A gifted photographer, Rance would take pictures yearly at the Indianapolis 500 for the Associated Press. He loved to watch sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing. He was a Yankees Baseball, Notre Dame, Green Bay Packers, and racing fan.
Rance was a movie buff, but his favorites were Westerns. He enjoyed going to concerts, and out to breakfast and lunch with his friends. He enjoyed listening to the Beach Boys and was sure to see them when they were in town. Rance was a member of the Indianapolis 500 Old Timer's Club.
A private memorial service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 9, 2024 from 1 pm to 5 pm at VFW 1111 Veterans Square. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 14th & Chestnut Community Center.
