Rebecca Mae Morge

Rebecca Mae Wright Morge, age 91, passed away on December 30, 2024. Born on February 27, 1933, to Rev. Paul and Ruby Wright, Rebecca led a life filled with devotion to her family, community, and faith.

A proud graduate of Wiley High School in 1950, Rebecca married David S. Morge on June 25, 1950. Together, they built a loving family that includes their son, David Phillip Morge (Barbara Jenks Morge), and daughters Susan Jane Van Fossen (Dale) and Laurie Ann Byrley (Donald G. Jr.). Rebecca was the cherished grandmother of Kevin, Amy Lillich (Bret), Jennifer Postin (Carey), Christy Janssen, Donald G. Byrley III (Kaitlin), and David Byrley (Celestina). She was also a proud great-grandmother to Zach, Megan, Justin, Ashlyn, Conner, and Aiden.

Rebecca was deeply involved in her community and church. She was a charter member of the Fort Harrison Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Candlelighter Home Economics Club. Additionally, she was a past member of Eastern Star and served as Guardian of Bethel 79 of Job's Daughters. A dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant Northside Church, Rebecca held leadership roles as chairperson and President of the United Methodist Women.

Professionally, Rebecca worked for 21 years at Union Hospital’s switchboard but found joy in creating floral arrangements for the hospital’s gift shop. Her creativity and kindness touched many lives.

Rebecca is survived by her sister Carol Woerner Smith and brother Larry Wright (Sharon). She was predeceased by her brothers Gene Wright, Harold Lee Wright, and Donald Wright.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Service will be at 1:00pm with Dr. Jim Evans officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
