

Robert Lawrence Cook, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Union Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1924, in Terre Haute to Edward and Ida Mae (Hanley) Cook. He married Edna Barbee on September 2, 1955.
Robert is survived by his two children, Donna J. Purviance and Edward R. Cook and his wife Jill, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Joshua R. Purviance of Bloomington, IN, Caleb M. Purviance of LaVerne, CA, Paige L. Cook of Cary, NC and Morgan N. Cook of Terre Haute; and close friend Jim Jones of Terre Haute.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Edna Cook; a brother, Leon Cook; sisters, Virginia Cresson and Betty Cartwright.
Robert was a graduate of Gerstmeyer Tech. He joined the United States Navy in 1944. Robert served in the South Pacific during WWII on an a destroyer escort. He spent his 21st birthday weathering a typhoon on the USS Presley, in the Pacific Ocean. After serving in the Navy, Robert came back to Terre Haute and worked for Allis Chalmers and JI Case. After retirement, he kept busy fixing anything he could get his hands on. He enjoyed working on his tractor, working around the house and yard, and helping family and friends. He loved his family more than anything and cherished the time he spent with them.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home with Lynn Ann Dunning officiating and military honors performed by American Legion Post 104.
