Sondra “Sandy” Rose Andrews, 90, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away in Hospice care at The Commons of Honey Creek, on Aug 1st, 2025. Born on June 6, 1935 to Frank and Ruth Colderbank , in Terre Haute, Indiana, along with sister Barbara Colderbank Roth. She is preceded in death by parents Frank and Ruth, sister Barbara, and daughter Chrisy.
She raised three daughters, Kathy Lynn Placker(Robert Baker), Chrisy Lee Tipton(Robert), and Laury Luis Hall(Dirk). She also had 5 grandchildren; Sarah Lowery(Shane), James Placker, Tyler Hall(Paige), Randy Hall(Rebecca) and Rebekah Hall. She had 7 great- grandchildren: Matthew, Eli and Benjamin Lowery, Rory Hall, Aaron Hall, Sofia Hall and Norah Hall, and a niece Jennifer Roth.
She was recognized many times in town from being an LPN at Terre Haute Regional Hospital for 27 years. She trained many nurses and worked with many doctors over the years who admired her very much. We even found out later that the overseer of the Hospice program she used was trained by her for many years at Regional.
She loved making sure her grandchildren saw zoos and amusement parks, and did fun things when they could visit. She loved going on rollercoasters while she could! She graduated from Garfield High School in 1953.
Her favorite thing to do was go out to breakfast(at New Day café) and take naps. She had a thing for animals and they loved her too. She fed cats and squirrels in her neighborhood on 10th street. After moving into assisted living at the Commons of Honey Creek, she continued her involvement with animals, watching birds, squirrels, and very often deer and fawns! A few weeks before she passed she had a squirrel come and tap 3 times on her window as if to say “Hey, how about a nut?” Also on the evening before she passed a doe came to her window and looked in while she was asleep. I think they were keeping watch, and came to pay their respects the next morning.
She was always kind and everyone said she hardly complained or asked for help. She was fiercely independent most of her life and made a good life for her daughters. Her legacy was in those she left a mark on, her friends and family and acquaintances. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at Roselawn Funeral Home from 11AM to 1PM with funeral service to immediately follow.
