Stephen V. Thompson Sr.

Stephen V. Thompson, Sr., age 75, of Terre Haute, slipped away in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 28, 2022, to join his late brother, Paul, for coffee in Heaven. Steve was a retired fleet technician for Verizon. For many years, he was a GM Master Technician for Sycamore Chevrolet. He represented them as a National Finalist in the 1988 Master Technician Performance Challenge Competition, winning him a 1989 Corvette. He was also chosen as "Mr. Goodwrench" for a national ad campaign featured in many major publications. Steve loved music, especially country and bluegrass - preferably on vinyl. His wonderful sense of humor kept those around him laughing. He was an intuitive thinker who could "fix anything." He was always available to answer questions and help with whatever was needed. In fact, he was generous to a fault. Most of all, Steve was a pillar of personal integrity, self-discipline, and strength, making him a role model for all - young and old. Steve is survived by Donna Brewer Thompson, his wife of 57 years; son, Stephen V. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Laura; daughter, Tracy Byerly and husband, John; granddaughter, Miranda Briley and husband, Kyle; and granddaughter, Carly Thompson. He is also survived by sisters, Sylvia Jurgonski (Jerry Burns), Delight Walters (Tom); Mary Thompson, Heather Kuckewich; and brothers, Ronald Thompson, Sr. (Donna), Rosalyn Thompson (widow of Paul), Roy Thompson (Yoko), George Thompson (Billie), and Donald Thompson (Leesa); half-siblings, Dawn Thompson, Allison Essenkova (Oleg), and Ryan Thompson (Jody). Uncle Steve will be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews, great and great-great as well as dozens of brothers and sisters-in-law and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Stiegelbauer Thompson; father, Roy H. Thompson; brothers, Ivan Thompson and Paul Thompson; and sister, Carole Parker. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 on "The Hill" at the Thompson's home. The family encourages all guests to wear masks. Refreshments will be provided.
