Susan was born to Charles “Glen” and Mildred “Jane” Wheat in August of 1948 in Terre Haute, IN. She received her bachelor's degree from Indiana State University. She taught elementary school for several years before changing career paths and working as a corporate accountant. She worked as an accountant at GE Capital, which later became CRBE, for more than 20 years.
She was married to Jim Briggs from 1974 until his passing in June of 2018. Together they raised a loving family with three children, and many grand and great-grandchildren.
Susan loved gourmet cooking, crocheting, and sewing and even made her own clothing for several years. She loved puzzles and games and even loved to play older computer games on newer consoles. She very much loved her pets and had many over the years.
Susan is survived by her children Angela Briggs, Kimberly Briggs, and Jeffery Briggs (Esperanza); grandchildren Alixandra (Ben), Jason, Allison, Jospeh, and Christine (Brandown); great-grandchildren Apollo, Kalea, Liam, Giselle, Leilani, Elijah, and Jaden; sister Jean Vasquez; niece Shawna; nephew David “DJ”; and great-nieces and nephews Marissa, Rylan, and Reigner.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles “Glen” Wheat and Mildred “Jane” Wheat (Newkirk), and her beloved husband of 44 years James “Jim” Briggs.
Susan will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home located at 7500 N. Clinton St., Terre Haute, IN from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, September 24,2025 with services to immediately follow.
