Obituary of Terry Wayne Buchanan
Terry Wayne Buchanan, 65, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Regional Hospital. He was born on August 3, 1951, in Vigo County to Edward Holly Buchanan, Sr. and Mollie Marie (Hargett) Buchanan. Terry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jane (Hollingsworth) Buchanan of Terre Haute; sons, Ben “Clyde” Buchanan and wife Christy of Vermilion, IL, Eric Buchanan and wife Laycie of Mt. Vernon, IN, and Dusty Buchanan and wife Heather of Evansville, IN; grandchildren: Hailey, Seth, Coltin, Avery, and Ethan Buchanan; step-grandchildren: Kala Goodman, Briana Watters, Jacqueline Goodman,and Dominick, Nate, and Ky-Leigh Cox. Terry is also survived by his brothers: Edward “Pete” Buchanan and wife Judy, Ron Buchanan and wife Karen, and Don Buchanan and wife Marilyn, all of West Terre Haute; sisters: Mary Jane Crabb, Rose Shattuck and husband Henry, both of West Terre Haute, and Hallie Fox and Ray of Terre Haute; step-siblings, Steve Schoffstall and wife Candy, Betty Sollars and husband Joe, all of West Terre Haute, Linda Thoms and Danny Schoffstall; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mollie Buchanan; brothers, Ernie Buchanan and Seth “Digger” Buchanan, an infant brother, and a sister, Laura “Jody” Shattuck. Terry served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Terry knew the value of hard work and was a dedicated employee that performed intensive labor on a daily basis in order to provide for his family. Throughout the years, he worked at a foundry, cemeteries, and retired from ADVICS Brake and Chassis. Terry was a self-sufficient, jack of all trades that could fix anything. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would make the effort to learn how to do it, not only at work but also at home. An avid outdoorsman, Terry could often be found fishing and camping with his family and friends. He doted on his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Terry shared along with his wife the love of their four cats that brought him comfort and joy. Most of all, Terry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be truly missed. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 26 at Roselawn Funeral Home and from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Terry will be laid to rest with military honors at Roselawn Memorial Park.
