Obituary of Thomas Allan Reck
Thomas Allan Reck, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away at his home after spending a weekend with his family. He was born on December 15, 1937, in Indianapolis to Luther and Dorothy (Kalb) Reck. Tom is survived by his sister, Sue Lorey and husband Ralph of Dubois, IN; and a nephew, Douglas Lorey of Dubois, IN and Duane Lorey of Ferdinand, IN; niece, Deborah Kurtock of Fishers, IN and Donna Stemle of Jasper, IN; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews and five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tom proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. During his time in the military, he was the sports editor for the Fort Dix Post. Tom graduated from Indiana State University and was inducted into the ISU Athletics Hall of Fame. He became a well-known sports journalist for the Terre Haute Tribune Star from 1968 to 2000. Tom had a passion for sports journalism and continued to write for the newspaper part-time for many years after his retirement. He was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the Terre Haute Golf Association Hall of Fame. Tom was a long-time member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346. Tom loved his family, and faithfully sent birthday cards to everyone each year. He remembered all of his extended families birthdays, even reminding his sister of her grandchildren’s birthdays. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar St, Terre Haute IN 47807 and at noon on Sunday, October 25 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 5535 N. Vine St., Dubois, IN. Tom will be laid to rest with family at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of to St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
