Virginia “Gini” Hill, a true Terre Haute original who lived life on her own terms, was born on September 8, 1944, and sadly passed away on June 4, 2026, at the Gibson Family Hospice Center. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Rose Hill.
Gini was a real force of nature who didn’t just follow the rules; she made her own! Whether she was running the switchboards at Indiana Bell, knocking down strikes on the company bowling team, or greeting folks at the mortgage department at First Financial Bank, Gini brought her special charm to everything she did. She had a knack for decorating and painting, and every place she called home was a reflection of her creativity.
Her life was filled with her favorite things: a love for the color blue (when her son Cary was out car shopping for her, she always said, “Any car will do, as long as it’s blue!”), Saturday shopping sprees with her good friend Maridean McCombs—who always promised to save her a spot in heaven—Friday night steak dinners at Texas Roadhouse with family, and an endless love for every cat that wandered into her yard. They all seemed to end up with names like "Miss Kitty, or kitty cat" or some variation of that!
Gini was lovingly cared for by her son, Cary, and daughter-in-law, Brenda, in her final days. She is survived by her children: Cary (Brenda) Albin, Chris (Dianna) Albin, and Jennifer Fry; her grandkids: Thomas (Penny) Parker, Ashley, Amber, and Benjamin; step-grandson, Jared; and her great-grandkids: Bradley, Jonathan, and Zabella Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Rose Hill.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on Lafayette Avenue, followed by a funeral at 1:00 p.m. She will then be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Gini’s big heart with a donation to the Terre Haute Humane Shelter or the Gibson Family Hospice Center.
