

Loretta “Wanda” Wandalene Byers, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Union Hospital. She was born on October 22, 1938, in Mecca, to Elbert G. and Mary Evelyn (Fiscus) Hutson. She married William Byers on November 7, 1957 and together they raised two children.
Wanda graduated from Elkhart University of Medical and Dental Technology as a nurse in March, 1957. She worked for many years at the Vigo County Auditor’s Office. When she wasn’t busy with work, she could always be found making crafts. She especially enjoyed painting. Wanda was also an excellent cook. When her children were young, Wanda volunteered as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader. She was an avid basketball fan and never missed an IU or Pacers game.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 56 years, William of Terre Haute; a son, Michael Byers of Terre Haute; a daughter, Lisa Gilman and her husband Monty of Clinton; grandchildren, Brittney and Jacob Gilman of Clinton; a sister, Mary Ann Busick and her husband Buck of Plainfield; a sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Hutson of Louisiana; brother-in-law Richard Byers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Judy Shelton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gerald Hutson; and in-laws, Richard and Anna Moy.
Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Judy Lints officiating.
