Winston Bryant Henderson

He is survived by his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Henderson; two sons, Kim Henderson and wife Helen of Trafalgar and Eric Henderson; one daughter, Marla Farris and husband Todd of Greencastle; two stepchildren, Dick Pate and wife Kathy of Charleston, S.C., and Becky Harvey and husband Ron of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Hillery Ann Harvey-Hays, Julia Harvey Old, Amy Hyatt, Ashley Brosey, Ryan Farris, and Katie Farris; and six great-grandchildren, Sawyer Harvey-Hays, Ivy Harvey-Hays, William Hyatt, Grayer Hyatt, Henry Brosey and Mimi Brosey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lois Veach Henderson; and brother, Robert Henderson

He graduated from Iowa State University in 1941 and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1944. He was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded Eagle Scout in 1933 and then earned the title of Silver Beaver in 1996

As a devout Christian he was a very active member of his church, Maplewood Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and chairman of the church board and taught Bible study for many years. He worked for more than 20 years at Columbia House as director of purchasing. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, huge fan of local high school and college basketball and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also was a 50-year-member of Masonic Lodge 19, Scottish Rite of Wabash Valley, Terre Haute Zorah Shrine Temple, Terre Haute Elks Lodge 86, Charter member of the Northside Optimist Breakfast Club, American Cancer Society, and Vigo County Historical Society.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home & Crematory, 4660 Lafayette Ave., with Masonic services to be conducted by Masonic Lodge 19. The Rev. Craig Wineinger will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday 11 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
