Xzavier Chapman, 22, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2026, in North Carolina. He was born on August 10, 2004, and in his 22 years, Xzavier lived a life filled with love, adventure, service, laughter, family, friendship, and memories that will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Xzavier was the kind of person who could walk into a room and brighten it simply by being there. His personality was, as those who loved him might say, “lighting in a bottle.” He was memorable in a way that cannot easily be explained. He had a presence that stayed with you, a personality you could never forget, and a way of making people feel as though they had known him forever. Xzavier had an old soul and a heart that was always willing to give someone a chance. He could meet a stranger and, before long, make a friend. People who had just met him often felt as though they were long-lost friends.
He was gentle, patient, caring, and reliable. Xzavier was the person you could count on. He was often the first one there when someone needed help, and if he put his heart into something, he gave it everything he had. Whether he was helping a friend, caring for his family, serving alongside his military brothers and sisters, or simply trying to make someone's day a little better, Xzavier had a way of making things happen. If there was something that needed to be done, he would find a way.
One of the greatest chapters of Xzavier's life began when he met Jamie at Great Dane, where Jamie was one of his bosses. Their relationship began just two weeks before Xzavier left for boot camp. What started with the simple words, “I really like you,” grew into something much deeper and more beautiful. Despite the distance and demands of boot camp, they remained connected. Their love continued to grow while Xzavier was away, and when he returned from deployment, the two were married on April 24, 2024.
Xzavier was incredibly proud of his military service and especially proud of earning the rank of Corporal. His time in the military gave him not only a sense of accomplishment and purpose, but also another family in the brothers and sisters with whom he served. He loved the people he served alongside and always seemed to find a way to have fun, make memories, and bring laughter into even the most demanding days. He worked in the Marine Motor Division and was known for being someone who could fix just about anything. His ability to work with his hands and figure things out was another reflection of the determination that was so much a part of who he was.
Xzavier's love for adventure extended far beyond his military life. He loved riding motorcycles and could often be found spending time in his garage, enjoying the freedom that came with working on and riding them. He loved being outdoors and experiencing nature, but what mattered most was sharing those experiences with the people he loved. Hiking with his family, spending days at the beach, grilling, and simply being together were among the things that brought him the greatest happiness.
Home was never just a place for Xzavier. Home was his family.
He treasured his wife, his children, his parents, his siblings, and everyone who had become part of his family. He loved spending time with his children and was the kind of father who showed his love through the everyday moments that often become the most precious memories. No matter how late he had worked, Xzavier would take the kids to the bus stop every morning. He made time for his family because they mattered to him more than anything.
There was always something fun happening when Xzavier was around. He loved playing cornhole with his family at home, grilling, playing pool with friends, and making new friends along the way. He could turn an ordinary moment into a story that everyone would remember. His family will forever smile at the memory of him randomly singing lyrics out in public, often without a care in the world about who might be listening. He had an incredible ability to make people laugh and to make life feel a little lighter.
Some of the most meaningful memories of Xzavier are not grand adventures at all, but the quiet, ordinary moments that only those closest to him knew… the conversations, his hugs, his presence in the room, the way he would brush his wife’s hair after a shower, the way he showed up when he was needed, the way he made time for his children, and the way he could make a stranger feel like an old friend… These are the moments that will now be treasured more than ever.
Xzavier believed in God, and his faith was another part of the foundation of his life. He carried with him a belief in something greater than himself and a heart that continually sought to care for the people around him.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son, a beloved brother, a treasured uncle, a loyal friend, and a proud member of his military family. To those who served with him, he was a brother. To his friends, he was someone who could always be counted on. To his family, he was a source of laughter, comfort, strength, and unconditional love.
Xzavier never did anything halfway. When he loved, he loved completely. When he helped, he gave everything he could. When he served, he gave his best. When he cared about someone, there was no question about it. He put his heart into the people and things that mattered to him and would do whatever he could to make things happen.
His absence has left an emptiness that cannot be filled. There is an empty place in the hearts of everyone who loved Xzavier, and there always will be. His family will miss his presence, his conversations, his laughter, his hugs, his sense of adventure, his humor, and all of the little things that made him uniquely Xzavier.
They will miss seeing him in his garage working on motorcycles. They will miss family days at the beach, hikes, cookouts, cornhole games, and the unexpected moments of laughter. They will miss watching him with his children and seeing the love he had for his family. His military brothers and sisters will miss the friend and fellow Marine who could make a difficult day better simply by being himself.
Xzavier's life may have been far too short, but it was full of love and meaning. He touched people in ways he may never have realized. He made friends out of strangers, gave people chances, created memories wherever he went, and left an impression that will not fade.
Those who knew Xzavier will carry him forward in the stories they tell, the laughter they share, the adventures they continue, and the love they give to others. Every motorcycle ride, family gathering, game of cornhole, day at the beach, hike, cookout, and unexpected song will carry a piece of his memory.
Xzavier Chapman was a person to be remembered and a personality that could never be forgotten.
Though he is no longer physically here, the love he gave remains. His family will continue to love him, remember him, and carry him with them every day.
We will always miss you, we will always love you, and there will always be an empty place in all of our hearts with you not around.
Xzavier is survived by his beloved wife, Jamie Chapman; his parents, Russella (Derek) Beneze; his uncle, Nathaniel Chapman; his siblings, Zachary (Destiny) Sutton, Sydney Beneze, Felicite (Justin) Beneze, Brionna Beneze, Joseph Snavely, Izabella Chapman, and Heavenly Chapman; his children, Jermaine, Nataleigh, Jeremih, and Jelonni; and his beloved fur-son, Ragknor.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 11am to 2pm at Roselawn funeral Home, 7500 North Clinton Street, Terre Haute, IN 47805. A funeral will immediately follow the visitation where military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps.
