Chapel in Terrell, Texas with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Terrell, Texas. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. to service time on Wednesday April 15, 2015. James (Jim) Rayner, 76, passed away April 12, 2015 in Corinth, Texas. He was born Aug. 22, 1938 in Memphis, TN to Whitfield Eli and Myrtle Frances Rayner, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his wife, Marie Rayner, brother, Russell Rayner, sister-in-law, Loretta Rayner. Jim was a veteran having served in the US Navy and he worked for most of his career as Quality Control Supervisor at Rockwell, Inc. He enjoyed going to Lone Star Park and he spent a lot of time making sure that he had done all the research on all aspects of racing: horses, jockeys and trainers. His analytical mind was a sharp tool that he used for his profession as well as his hobbies which also included playing poker. Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes he had heard. His ‘delivery’ of the punchlines was usually just as funny as the joke itself! He had a loyal and steadfast personality to those that he cared for and he was known for being straight forward, honest and very organized in his interests, activities and endeavors. He held fast to continuity and his talent of making sure all details were taken care of is a cherished legacy his family will continue to honor. He is survived by his children: Carla Daniel and husband, Johnny Hammond of Collinsville, TX; Kathy Jacobs and husband, Don, of Argyle, TX, and Mike Walls of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings: Richard Rayner of Euless, Ruth Rayner of Dallas, and Evelyn DiJoseph and husband, Joe, of Chicago, IL; godson, Tim Rayner as well as several other nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
