

James "Jimmy" Taylor Smith III, of Terrell, passed away on July 27, 2014 in Dallas. He was born on September 20, 1945 to James Taylor Smith, Jr., and Celestine Dorothy (Howell) Smith in Austin. Jimmy loved to tinker in his workshop, try his luck in Louisiana, and work with horses. He was well known to the Yellow Rose Cafe "coffee crowd" and was also never absent for the 2 o'clock gathering at Pop's Fried Chicken in Terrell. He served his country in the United States Army and continued his hard work as a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor with the City of Garland, until his retirement in the late 90's. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to celebrate his life are beloved wife Sheila Smith; children Greg Smith and wife Joanna of College Station, Veronica Murphey and husband Matt of Rockwall, and James Smith IV of Houston; sisters Joyce Knowles and husband Raymond of Garland and Susan Walker and husband Larry of Austin. Also surviving their “Pe Paw” are grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily and Courtney. Jimmy will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who will all miss him dearly. Family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 29 from 6-8 pm at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Terrell. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10 am, also at the funeral home with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Rockwall.
