Pat was born San Antonio, TX on December 10, 1935 to Harold Ludwick Pickler and Katheryne E. Davies Pickler. Pat died in Greenville on October 12, 2019. Patricia grew up as an only child in a big house near downtown San Antonio with her parents and grandparents. Pat filled her days playing with her dolls, pets and chickens. She took dance and piano lessons as a child. While in High School she was the school majorette. We have seen pictures of her in her elaborate costumes as a child. Pat was a beautiful child and young woman. She always had “Class.”
She celebrated God’s love in her love of God’s beauty and creatures. She didn’t openly talk about God. But she believed in Him and His son, Jesus. Pat had a passion for flowers, butterflies and birds. She studied everything about them and could identify the birds by sight and their calls and their nests by name. Pat loved working in the yard and planting gardens. She recognized the different butterflies God has given us. While living in Oklahoma she took a junky, rocky piece of property that looked like a park. Pat had an artist’s “Eye.”
After I had written the above, I found a piece of paper, Pat had written years ago. She asked to have a poem read at her Memorial. Pat said the words in the poem represented her belief in God through His presence in Nature and the things of beauty He created that surround us in Nature. She said, I felt closer to God and ultimately believe in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. If I could just be out in Nature…more son than a church built in His honor.
In 1956 Patricia married Charles “Charlie” Wallace Mullin, Jr. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. In January of 1965 they adopted their daughter Melissa.
Pat was a talented, creative person and returned to college and received extra certifications in Interior Design and also one in flower arrangement. She continually took classes to learn more. She designed and contracted the house she and Charlie lived in Dallas. The lot was uneven and on white rock the house had three levels. She had a home business for a time creating butterfly pictures.
She retired from Bill Jackson Furniture Showroom in Dallas where she used her talent in decorating. Pat’s dogs, cats, 30 year old turtle, and her turtle doves were lucky to have her as their human.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Kay “Gumpies” Pickler; in 1990 a grandchild, Joshua Preston Lybrand; and her husband, “Charlie” in 2011.
Pat is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Greg Lybrand, Keller; and grandsons, Zachery “Zach” and wife Sasha; Nick and granddaughter, ArMei’ Lybrand.
She is also survived by her friends, Donna and Edward Smith, James Allen, and many who loved how she expressed herself in her flower arrangements, gardens and design. Pat smiled and laughed a lot. Whenever I see a butterfly….. I will think of my friend, Pat. Pat also wrote this quote for us “Death is only an old door set in a garden wall. On quiet hinges it opens at dusk when the late birds call."
