Robert was born July 24, 1948 in Terrell, Texas to Roy Rufus and Mildred Marie (Jobe) Lee, both of whom welcomed him to Heaven. Robert grew up in Terrell and at the age of four, his mother Marie passed away and his father then married Melba Ruth Lee. Ruth would become a very loving mother and she was the only mother Robert knew and loved. Robert attended Terrell High School and Henderson Co. Jr. College after which he worked at Stewart Office Supply in Dallas before returning to Terrell and joining the Terrell Police Department from 1976 to 1986 where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. His experience at Stewart gave Robert the extensive knowledge of the printing business which enabled him to open his own business, Cherokee Printing, in Terrell which he owned and operated for many years. Robert loved people and challenges equally and in 1986, he was integral in setting up a print shop for Terrell ISD and he supervised the daily operations for 29 years and retired in 2015. Robert’s commitment to his ancestry led him to also serve on the board for the James Ables Family, Inc. where he was president for many years. Additionally, he was a current board member of the Ables Spings Cemetery Association. A proud and active member of the Rotary Club of Terrell having held various positions of responsibility, Robert’s friendly face was the first a visitor or member would see at meetings and his outgoing personality and relaxed smile would welcome anyone who came. Robert was a steadfast and committed member to First Baptist Church as he would, once again, utilize his outgoing personality by greeting members and visitors at First Baptist Church and Robert would never waste a chance to invite others to visit so they could hear the Good News. His spirit of generosity and his love for people and helping was evident in every action of Robert’s life. His was a life that exemplified service above self and he was a tireless and dedicated man to his family and his community.
