Barbara Joyce Fant, 81, of Texarkana, TX went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 10, 2018 in Texarkana, TX. There will be a graveside service only on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 2:00, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, with. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home. Barbara was born at home to John and Gladys Hogan on September 15, 1936, in Tom Green County, TX, near Orient. She grew up in Miles, TX, and had many fond memories of spending time with her daddy at his Gulf Service Station, before he became sick and passed away from an unknown illness when she was only 14 years old. She married Terrell Fulton Fant on December 28, 1955 in San Angelo, TX and they shared 57 wonderful years together until he passed away on March 5, 2013. During the early years of their marriage they hauled hay together, and made their home in Miles, TX. In 1958 Terrell joined the military, and Barbara became a military wife. Married to Terrell and the Air Force, Barbara spent the next 20 years of her life following, or staying behind, which ever was called for. The life of a military wife wasn’t an easy one, but Barbara always made the best of it. No matter how worried or scared she was when he was deployed to Vietnam and other dangerous locations, she always made her children feel safe and secure. One of her favorite hobbies was decorating every house, and making it a home for her family, and she also loved decorating for every season and occasion. Terrell was stationed in the Philippines, and this was his only out-of-country deployment with his family accompanying him. It was a whole new world for Barbara and her family, but she adapted and made the best of it. During all those years she enjoyed keeping the home fires burning, and raising their two daughters Kimberly and Cindy. Her passion was always her family, and in her later years her great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved nothing more than hearing stories about them and talking to them on the phone since she wasn’t able to be with them as often as she liked. She is survived by her daughters Kimberly McGee and husband Paul McGee of Texarkana, AR and Cindy Roberts of Owasso, OK; four grandchildren, Brandi Hines and her husband Josh of Russellville, AR, Tiffany Maxwell and her husband Gunnar of Texarkana, TX, Weston McCarty of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Dylan McCarty and wife Katie of Farmington, AR; five great grandchildren, Hunter and Holden Hines both of Russellville, AR, Zyler McCarty of Farmington, AR, Camden and Kipton Maxwell both of Texarkana, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doris Walden, her husband Terrell, a great grandson Zane Riley McCarty, and a great granddaughter Grace Serenity Maxwell.
