Carl Edwin Culpepper, 87 of Texarkana, TX. passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018. He was born August 5, 1931 in Texarkana, AR. Carl graduated from Texas High School in 1949 and attended Texarkana Junior College and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwestern University in George Town, TX. Carl also received a graduate degree from North Texas University in 1958. Carl served in the United States Army in the Korean War where he was a clinical psychologist at Fitz Simmons Hospital in Denver, CO. Carl was a member First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, AR. where he was a member of the New Covenant Sunday School Class and also served as chairman of the finance committee and a life member of the Administrative Board; active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was named outstanding member in his early active years; president of volunteers service organization; served as president of Texarkana Retired Teacher Association and served on the Texas Board of directors for many years. He was a founding member of the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, charter member of T.R.A.C.H. and TEX REP.
His career of 35 years began at Texas High School teaching Algebra and Geometry. His psychology experience prepared him for the counselor position at Pine Street Junior High School. Carl was assistant principal at Pine Street Junior High School and retired as assistant superintendent.
Carl married Nona Eagle Culpepper on November 22, 1956 in Prescott, AR. They were married for over 62 years.
Preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Nola Culpepper, brother Wilbur Goza and a sister Marie Braswell.
Survived by his wife Nona Culpepper of Texarkana; two daughters and son-in-law Carla Kathryn Narens of Huntsville, AR. and Caren and Ronnie Poole of Texarkana; three grandchildren Jennifer and Todd Thomas of Huntsville, AR., Alex Narens of Texarkana, Mitchel Poole of Texarkana and five great grandchildren; plus numerous nieces, nephews and host of other family and friends.
Family will have a 1 P.M. Thursday private graveside at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 2 P.M. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, AR. officiated by Rev. Jaimie Alexander.
Family will have a reception in the First United Methodist Church Cabe Center following the 2 O'clock memorial service. All services are entrusted to East Funeral Home-Downtown.
