He was born on November 26,1929, to Carmie Hemperley Templeton and Ivan Templeton in Bloomburg,TX. He grew up attending Bloomberg schools with family ties in Bloomberg and Doddridge,TX.
Dan especially enjoyed his high school years in Hooks,TX, where he lettered in basketball and
continued playing for 2 years at Texarkana Jr College. He began his long lasting career in the paint industry doing odd jobs and deliveries for Porter-McClure Paint Company on State Line Ave. Through diligence and a dedicated work ethic, he became the accounts manager, traveling and making numerous friends throughout the Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma area.
On August 6,1966, Dan married Juanita Griggs. They took up residence in their newly remodeled home on Bowie St and resided there for 47 years as a happy couple.
They were active members of Hardy Memorial Church and later Fairview United Methodist
Church. Dan and Juanita truly enjoyed an active social life: parties and barbecues with friends;
dancing at the Elks; and trips to the Ozarks, Hawaii, and Florida where they made lasting
memories.
As time passed, Dan eventually became the majority stockholder in Porter McClure, enjoying his work and friendships so much that he worked until his retirement at age 75.
Dan and Juanita enjoyed their retirement years, frequently visiting (the boats) in Shreveport and taking interest in the activities of the neighborhood children.
When Juanita suddenly passed away in 2012, Dan was devastated but was uplifted by his
steadfast friendships with Mike Cherry, Gordon Wagner, Tracey Cooper and many neighborhood friends who were always there to assist him.
In July of 2022, he was honored as a brethren of the Masons of Texas for his 70 years of
membership.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Murl Templeton and J.W (Dub)
Templeton and his sister Abilene Swinsen.
He is survived by nephews John Templeton of Laguna Park, TX ; Johnny Griggs of Longview,
