Donsald Lewis Huckabee
September 7, 1931 – August 5, 2019
Donsald Lewis Huckabee, 87, of Texarkana, Arkansas, entered his heavenly home on Monday, August 5, 2019.
Donsald was born to John and Ruth Huckabee on September 7, 1931, in Patmos, Arkansas. The family then moved to Bodcaw, Arkansas, where Donsald grew up and graduated high school. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was proud of his service and loved his country.
Donsald was a hard-working man and always strived to provide everything he could for his family. He retired from SWEPCO as a lineman, after 32 years of service. On June 12, 1955, Donsald married the love of his life, Carolyn Huett. When Carolyn caught Donsald’s eye, she was a senior at Hope High School and was a majorette for the Bobcat Band. Donsald always said he did not go to the football games to watch football but went to watch the most beautiful girl he had ever seen twirl the baton. It took a while for Carolyn to agree to go on a date with Donsald, but she finally gave in. He told her he loved her on their first date. She told him to take her home and not to call again. Donsald was relentless and after three weeks, she agreed to go out with him again. They were married just a few months later. During their 64 years together, they celebrated the birth of four children, worked tirelessly to provide for their family, spent time traveling with family and friends, and mourned the loss of a son and daughter-in-law. Throughout all of this, they treasured their commitment to one another. Donsald loved Jesus, his family, his friends, chewing tobacco, Hershey Bars, and Sunkist Orange! He was especially devoted to his family and never let one of them leave the house or hang up the phone without telling them he loved them.
Donsald was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Huckabee, and a daughter-in-law, Vicki Stearn Huckabee. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Huett Huckabee, two sons, Jerry Huckabee and Paul Huckabee, both of Texarkana, AR, one daughter, Sandra Stone and husband Rex of Texarkana, AR. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Matthew Huckabee, Dayna Huckabee, Johnathan Stone, Autumn Huckabee, Olivia Huckabee, and Sophie Huckabee. He also leaves behind one great-grandson, William Huckabee, and great-granddaughter, Peyton Rhinehart, along with a host of relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank L.J. and Carolyn Lefevers for visiting mom and dad every Tuesday afternoon for the past several years. Dad and L.J. shared the Bible and their mutual love for Jesus. This was a sweet time Donsald and Carolyn both looked forward to.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 8, 2019, from 5-7 pm at East Funeral Home Downtown, Texarkana, TX. The service will be Friday, August 9, 2019, at 11:00 am in the chapel of East Funeral Home Downtown Texarkana, officiated by Brother Kevin Myers, L.J. Lefevers, and Johnathan Stone.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Vicki Huckabee Memorial Scholarship, Texarkana Arkansas School District, Attention: Business Office, 3512 Grand, Texarkana, AR, 71854.
