

Dorothy was born the youngest of 11 children on December 5, 1931 to Robert Alley and Martha Ada Riley Fox in Winfield, Texas.
After graduating salutatorian of her class in 1949, she started a 40 year career with Titus County Schools where she later became the Assistant Superintendent.
In 1958, she married the love of her life, Wilburn (Whit) Whittington. Whit was a preacher and later an elder in the church. She devoted her life to him for 38 years.
In 1989, she retired and spent 6 years taking care of her loving husband until his death in 1996. She then started traveling all over the United States with her church friends, and was devoted to the church, her children, grandchildren and precious great grandchildren. She loved her great grandchildren as much as her grandchildren. They were all truly her whole world.
Dorothy was the center of her family’s life. She was a peacemaker. Anyone who knew her was captivated by her sense of humor and her razor sharp wit.
She was a faithful member of Hampton Road Church of Christ.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn (Whit) Whittington,Jr., her parents, 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Terri (Mark) Rushing and Lisa (Billy) Giddens, grandchildren, Brandon (Robin) Rushing, Katie Williams, Daniel (Emily) Rushing, Whitney Giddens and Haley (Jacob) Hill, 9 great grandchildren, Ali, Blaine, Lacee, Malorie, Marlena, Piper, Isla, Brooks, Leo and Ada, due in September of this year and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at East Funeral Home on Moores Ln., Texarkana, Texas on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 10:30 am.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am prior to the service. Officiating the service will be her son-in-law, Billy Giddens and Jerry Monholland.
Graveside service will be at Nevells Chapel Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Texas at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Rushing, Daniel Rushing, Jacob Hill, Ron Jackson, Chris Ritchie, Allen Kirkpatrick and Larry Parham.
