Beth was known for her generosity, thoughtfulness, charm, wit, and easy laugh. She never met a stranger; invariably uncovering something of interest in a conversation most might mislabel as mundane. But never mundane, Beth had a keen eye for beautiful things including her favorite flower, a Southern Magnolia blossom, French art, vintage earrings and quality antiques. No one could sport a hat like Beth. She adored fine tea and wine. She was a cat lover too. Once she domesticated a feral cat by spending weeks coaxing him into the safety of her lovely Texas home.
Beth graduated from Caldwell High School, Columbus in 1980. She earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University (1985). She completed a Master’s degree in Counseling, University of Alabama at Birmingham (1993). Later, she studied Educational Leadership at Washington State University at Pullman (2004-2007).
Beth was passionate about promoting healthy and viable futures for college students through counseling. Beth’s dedication towards counseling also extended into the community. In Washington, Beth became an integral member of Soroptimist International, a women’s service organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls.
Beth inherited a love of music that was passed down from her older brothers, who spent hours with Beth listening and discussing rock artists’ records in the den of their Columbus home.
Beth was married to her former husband, William R (Bill) Green, for 25 years. One of their major joys was vacationing in vibrant Mexican resort areas. Together, they appreciated motorcycle outings, exploring restaurants and new foods, British mysteries, cards and board games.
Although friendly with many, Beth enjoyed a special lifelong friendship with her cousin Anne Ware Rushing, and benefitted from a special friendship with her close friend through her later years, Lori Dold.
Beth is survived by her siblings Lon (Karla), Diana and Kit Abadie; maternal nieces, Jena Tarleton Blake, Rachael Abadie; maternal nephews, David and Neil Abadie; maternal cousins, Kim Ware Horton, Anne Ware Rushing, James Kittrell Ware III, Marti Ware Boder and Lisa Ware; former husband, Bill Green and family, and her cat, Lily. She was predeceased by her parents Mary Anna (Ware) and Leon Abadie.
The family extends thanks to Anne Ware Rushing and Lori Dold for their invaluable support.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026, at Lake Lowndes, Columbus, MS, where Beth often read in a grove of sweetgum, red maple and pine.
Beth will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
