Elsa Maxwell Dreyer Burroughs (85) passed away on April 18, 2019 at her home in Akron, Ohio. Elsa was born on February 3, 1933 in Houston, Texas to Forest & Elizabeth (Betty) Dreyer. She grew up in Houston, TX, Shreveport, LA, and Texarkana, TX. She was married to Dr. James C. Burroughs and, after spending a few years in Little Rock, AR, she made their home in Texarkana, TX.
Elsa was a gourmet cook with an open kitchen policy. She could sew anything with or without a pattern or instructions. She could knit a sweater (that fit) in a day or two. Her handmade quilts warm her family to this day (she even made one for the dog). She was an accomplished classical pianist and played Chopin, Bach or Beethoven for hours. She loved to travel, especially to the west. Colorado always held a special place in her heart. She loved the Colorado state flower, the columbine as well as orchids, which she grew in her greenhouse.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Evans, three children, Elsa Fritts (Arthur), Oliver Burroughs and James Burroughs, four grandchildren, A.P. Fritts, Clara Fritts, Hannah Fritts and Sara Burroughs. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. James C. Burroughs and her sweet sister, Sue Slack.
While we will miss her presence, we will continue to carry her legacy of good humor, kindness, generosity of spirit and a profound love of art & culture wherever we go.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. James Episcopal church or the American Heart Association.
