Floyd Dell Woodle

Floyd Dell Woodle, 89, of Texarkana, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 14, 2021. He was known to many as “Fluky,” a nickname given to him by friends based on a popular jazz song of the 1930s, “Flat Foot Floogie (with a Floy, Floy),” because of his severely flat feet. Fluky, a lifelong resident of Texarkana, was born on October 24, 1931. He graduated from Texas High School where he was a drum major in the THS band. He met Mary Jeane Beggs in 1947, was married to her on December 28, 1952 and enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Fluky served in the Army Reserves, was a 32nd degree Mason in the Border Masonic Lodge of Texarkana and was also a Shriner in the Hella Shrine Temple of Garland, Texas.

Mr. Woodle was a lifelong member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He had an immense love for the outdoors -- he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a master gardener. Fluky had a special love for animals and cared deeply for all of his beloved pets. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and became an avid Texas Aggie fan after a son and granddaughter graduated from Texas A&M University.

Mr. Woodle was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Steve Woodle and Velma Ladell Miles Woodle. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jeane Woodle and his four children, Dr. E. Steve Woodle of Cincinnati, Ohio, Karen Jeane Woodle Ables of Texarkana, Bryan Kent Woodle of Texarkana, and Lynne Renee Woodle Harville of Texarkana; six grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. In 1970 he was named Father of the Year by the Texarkana Gazette.

Visitation will be at East Funeral Home on Moore’s Lane in Texarkana on Monday October 18 from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will also be at East Funeral Home, Moore’s Lane at 4 pm on Tuesday, October 19. Burial services will be restricted to family and held privately.
