Gordon Hopkins, born June 13, 1941, 80 years of age, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at a local facility. He was proceeded in death by his father, Gordon, mother, Edith and brother, Eugene Hopkins.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 25 years Tibby (Tib) Son, Scott Hopkins (Shera) of Texarkana, daughter, Jennifer (Fred) Shows of Greenville, SC. , step-sons Chad (Leslie) Thomas of Ft. Worth, and Kyle (Autumn) Thomas of Texarkana. His brother James (Harriet) Hopkins of Texarkana and sister Charlene (Howard) Walraven of Fouke, AR.

Grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Sherbondy; Hudson, Seth, Sydney and Sawyer Hopkins; Connor, Chandler, Meredith, and James Thomas.

Every person who had the opportunity to know Gordon, knew he truly was one of a kind. He was not only a role model to us, but most of Texarkana. Everyone would make a point to stop by his store “Gordon’s” to get a word of encouragement, advice, hear one of his many stories or just see his smile and get a hug. He has mentored numerous people and had the most gentle and kindest soul of anyone you would ever meet. He was the biggest Arkansas Razorback fan around.

A Gathering/visitation will be held Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas 75503.

Tibby, we are so sorry for your loss. I have known Gordon for nearly 60 years. At one time we worked together back in the early 60s and carpooled together to work at Lone Star. Never a day we didn’t make each other laugh. We have been in Waco for over 30 years and i missed seeing him at his store after we moved. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Jeff and Marilyn Hunter, Waco, Tx🙏🙏🙏❤️

My thoughts and prayers go out to Scott, Shera, Jennifer and the entire family. Gordon put up with all of the class of 87 kids who hung out there on the weekends. "Meet me at Gordon's" was part of our weekend lingo. He never had an ugly word to say about anyone and was a true mentor to hundreds of Texarkanians. RIP Gordon. Soon we can say "Meet me in heaven".

We met at Texarkana College, he was one of the best equipment trainers I knew. A friendship from then until now.

I loved going to Hopkins store. I was in there buying seed and overhead a conversation. A guy was complaining that his okra crop didn't work. He said that he planted the okra and hired some teenagers to cut it. He said he only planted 4 rows, and they quit 1/2 through the first cutting.
Mr. Hopkins said only 4 rows, I sold you 4 pounds of okra seed? The farmer replied that the rows were down by the river and about a mile long.

The world has lost someone very special. I will always remember how Gordon treated everyone with such kindness. He could light up a room with that great smile. May the love of family and friends comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead.
