Some of Jay’s happiest memories were made at the family’s cabin at Albert Pike. The cabin was established in 1961 and remained a place where he loved spending time with family. He enjoyed riding ATVs in his younger years and grew up exploring all areas of Albert Pike with his brother on their three-wheelers. He was an avid fisherman who loved fly fishing on the Little Missouri River. He enjoyed building model airplanes with his brother and flying them together. He also enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs, who brought him comfort throughout his life. Time spent with his family and dogs at the cabin created many cherished memories. Jay was also a talented chef who enjoyed catering throughout the years, beginning as a teenager at Jeffrey’s Sandwich Shop on Stateline.
Jay was a concrete craftsman and a third-generation owner of Carroll Concrete. He helped continue the family’s reputable business, known for its beautiful, high-quality stamped and stained concrete projects, including sidewalks, patios, and pool decks throughout the Texarkana area for many years.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Carroll (Jimmie) and Freda Elizabeth Johnson Carroll; his brother, James Edward Carroll Jr. (Jim Boy); his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Carroll (Johnnie); and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Henry Johnson.
Jay is survived by his wife, Jean McDowell Carroll; his son, Samuel Paul Carroll (Sam), and Sam’s children, Easten, Aiden, and Madden Carroll; Jean’s children, Elizabeth Sipes (Austin) and John Tullis; his siblings, Jill Hoover (Jay), Nina Hyre (Richard), and Chris Carroll (Terre); and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist the family with final expenses are gratefully appreciated.
The family sincerely thanks everyone for their prayers, love, and support shown during this time.
