John Patrick Thomas Sr.

April 26, 1927–April 14, 2022

John Patrick “Pat” Thomas passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, in his home. He was the youngest of nine children born of Frank A. and Sarah E. Thomas in Texarkana, Arkansas, attended Providence Academy Catholic school, served in the Navy during World War II, attended Texarkana College and Loyola University. He married Catherine Ann O’Dwyer, on August 29, 1949.

Pat was a Certified Public Accountant and a founding partner of Thomas and Thomas, CPA’s until his retirement in 1987.

He served as the Chairman of the Board of St. Michael’s Hospital, President of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, and Treasurer of the Texarkana Centennial Association along with numerous other positions within the community, CPA organizations, and his church. He was a lifelong member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Pat is preceded in death, and awaited at the Gates of Heaven, by his beloved wife of 55 years, Catherine Ann, his parents, eight brothers and sisters and their spouses as well as his grandsons, Brian Mayo and Jacob Hudson.

Pat is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Ann and Mike Mayo, Mary and Paul Matthews, John and Jana Thomas, Carolyn Hudson, David and Chris Thomas, Michael Thomas and fiancé Abby Andrews, all of Texarkana, Betty and Chuck Griffin of Mineola, Texas, and Randy and Sonia Thomas of Houston, Texas, 48 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge the prayers and support from many throughout the community during his illness as well as assistance from Seniors 4 Senior Care and Hospice of Texarkana.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 PM on April 19, 2022, with visitation following at East Funeral Home downtown located at 602 Olive Street in Texarkana, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, April 20, 2022, at St. Edward Catholic Church located at 407 Beech Street, Texarkana, AR with interment following at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church, Christus St. Michael Foundation, Kennedy Ladd Foundation (Hurler MPS1 support), or Hospice of Texarkana.
