Karen was born on June 8, 1961, at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rickey George, and her father, Benny Herrington.
She is survived by her mother Patsy Herrington as well as her “youngish” children, Crystal and her spouse Jason Leiva, and Aaron George, who were the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Sherry and Jimmy Sherman, Darla and Brian Jewell, and Brad and Terra Herrington.
She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, who loved her dearly: Chris Sherman, Megan Sherman, Maddie Sherman, Chance Jewell, Mason Herrington, Tyler Herrington, Mark Herrington, Kyler Sherman, Hadlee Sherman, Addi Jenkins, Annabeth Jewell, Elijah Serrano, Wyatt Dyer and Kutter Kelly.
Karen was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of Highland Park Baptist Church, TOPS, and Bible Study Fellowship. Her faith wasn’t just something she believe in, it was something she lived every day in the way she loved and cared for others.
She spent most of her life pouring into children. As a teacher in the Liberty-Eylau School District, she touched countless lives, and she carried that same heart into her church through Sunday school and children’s missions. She had a special way of making every child feel seen, loved, and important.
She was known by many names: Mom at home, Miss Karen at church, and Mrs. George at school. No matter what you called her, she showed up with love, kindness, and compassion, leaving a lasting mark on everyone who knew her.
Karen will be remembered for her kind heart, her strong faith, and the way she made people feel.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, 1pm to 2pm March 28, at East Funeral Home on Moores Lane, with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Scriptures that reflect her life and faith include John 16:33, Romans 6:23, and Matthew 19:13–15.
