

Madolyn Samons Measel, 97, of Texarkana, Ark., passed away on Monday, October 17. Dixie, as she was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Malvern, Arkansas, where she met her husband. After moving to Texarkana, she worked as a buyer and department head for Belk Jones. She was a life-long member of Beech Street First Baptist Church where she volunteered her time as a Sunday School director, an outreach leader, and a member of the senior council. She was also a member of NARFE, a former board member of the YWCA, and the president of Mepine Company L. C..
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Measel and her brothers, Loren Samons and Marvin Samons, both of Malvern, Arkansas.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Elrod of Texarkana; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Linda Measel of Tyler, Texas; one granddaughter and her husband, Kelli and Scott Marcantel of West Monroe, Louisiana; two grandsons and their wives, Max and Teena Elrod of Texarkana, and Nick and Mandie Elrod of Texarkana; two great-granddaughters, Madison Gould of West Monroe, Louisiana and Katie Marcantel of West Monroe, Louisiana; three great-grandsons, Hunter Elrod, Reese Elrod, and Jace Elrod of Texarkana.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 20th, 11 a.m., at Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas, with Pastor Craig Jenkins offiiciating. Visitation will follow the services. Online tributes may be made at www.eastfuneralhome.com.
